Checking in on the school part

Helloowww frigoooww
So ... I passed my second year of college (Communication and MultimediaDesign in Genk, Belgium) and I'm off to the third year, but as I'm starting to think about next year, I'm remembering why I chose C-MD in the first place, and I can remember nothing coming out of it. Doubts (or shall I say: a few concerns) are beginning to rise to the surface ...
To my opinion C-MD hasn't fulfilled my dreams. Becoming an expert of a few programs, becoming a good programmer and designer ... It's all selfstudy, which of course ... isn't put away for me. It's not one of my main ... qualities (hoping that I have at least one =) ).

So ... what's my goal for this summer: to develop my programming and designing further and getting my theoretical driver's licence.

And one of my other reasons for choosing C-MD was that it merged multiple art areas into one. But somewhere along the line the blending part was put to a halt I guess, because we haven't had printed media assignments. All on the net about websites, but nothing to illustrate a book's cover or make a little magazine in real life that you can actually hold in your hands.

A bit too bad. And talking about bits, this bit of text is slightly negative, but I'll make sure the next one is more positive and speaks of a true "joie de vivre" (for now you'll have to live with this kind of text colour hu =) )

See you soon
Nikita

Well, we did have a lesson InDesign which is used for print media. And Paul has talked at least one lesson about all sorts of printing. My thought about that lesson: this is not why chose C-MD. Maybe they could have a module like that or something. I don't think it's really necessary to have those kinds of lessons but I must admit that they could come in handy in the future.

Like it was handy for case 3 this year. My group made a little brochure, but your group used more print media, right?

I didn't find it really interesting to hear about the history of printing during Paul's lesson and I have already forgotten most of it I guess (shame on me). But maybe a module about modern print media and how you can use it to support your site, or promote it or whatever could be interesting. IF they make it interesting.

Oh, I just remembered a cool example of print media used in an original way. About a month ago, my brother received a letter from Het Belang van Limburg promoting the books you can collect this summer. The books were thrillers and this is how they presented it. I only saw it after my brother had opened it, so I hope I get it right :)

It was in a little plastic bag that was supposed to be an evidence bag. In it was a letter, a 'diary' with my brother's name on it, and a paper 'knife'. In the diary, you could see how the 'suspect', my brother wrote about the promotion of the newspaper. The 'knife' was actually a coupon for a free newspaper.

If you want to, I can find it and scan it in for you, no big deal :). But I'm afraid the knife coupon is already gone, because my brother was planning on getting the free newspaper.

But these kinds of things are pretty interesting. Also the use of one's name makes it a little more personal.

Lol, I just saw how much I've written. Sorry Nikki, I didn't mean to spam your blog like this ;)

And if there are any typos, I didn't bother reading it again after writing and it's already past 2 AM.

Oh, and I also forgot to say: hang in there! C-MD isn't always what I thought it would be, but that's just how life is. But still, I'm glad I decided to give it a try. Don't know if I'll still think that way 6 months from now, lol, we'll see.
